Spun polyester and regular polyester (usually referring to filament polyester) don't have an absolute "better" or "worse" option; it depends on what kind of wearing or usage experience you prioritize.
You can think of spun polyester as the "all-rounder" of the polyester world, combining the strength of synthetic fibers with the comfort of natural fibers.

Softer feel, more like cotton: Regular polyester often feels slippery, even a little "plastic-like." Spun polyester, however, undergoes special processing, where the fibers are shortened and twisted into yarn. This gives its surface tiny fibers, making it very soft to the touch, even mimicking the feel of pure cotton.
Better sweat absorption and breathability: Because of the richer fabric texture, spun polyester allows more air to circulate between the body and the clothing. Compared to regular polyester, which clings to the skin and feels sticky when sweating, it's more refreshing and breathable.
More natural appearance: Regular polyester is usually shiny and reflects light noticeably. Spun polyester has a softer, more textured color, without that cheap "synthetic fiber sheen," making it more suitable for everyday casual wear or home textiles.
Extreme durability: If you're making hiking backpacks, umbrellas, or high-intensity sportswear, regular filament polyester is superior. Its fibers are a single long strand, unlike spun polyester which is made of short fibers twisted together, so it has higher tensile strength and is less likely to tear.
Less prone to pilling: Because spun polyester has surface fibers, it may develop small pills after prolonged wear or friction. Regular filament polyester has a smooth surface and is virtually pill-free.
Choose "Spun Polyester": If you're buying everyday T-shirts, bed sheets, or tablecloths. It provides a skin-friendly feel similar to cotton, while also being easy to wash, quick-drying, and wrinkle-resistant like polyester.
Choose "Regular Polyester": If you're buying professional quick-drying sportswear, outdoor windproof jackets, or durable backpacks. Its smoothness and toughness make it the preferred choice for these high-stress scenarios.
